There is a certain knack to picking your own fruit be it strawberries, raspberries, currents etc. Not to mention storage once they are picked, below we reveal all about Strawberries!
How To Pick Perfect Strawberries
- Look for berries that are a deep, solid red and avoid fruits that are still ripening and have white tips. Once picked berries won’t get any sweeter! Berries can be shy, gently lift leaves as often the best fruit hides lower down on the plant.
- Also pinch the stem, don’t yank or pull the fruit. Leave about 1cm of green stem (removing the stem lets air and bacteria inside, making them spoil faster). Handle them gently to prevent damage or bruising.
- Washing & Storing Strawberries
Rinse under water and pat dry with kitchen roll.
- Keep the green stems and leaves on the fruit; removing them lets air and bacteria inside, making them spoil faster.
- Put them on a piece of kitchen towel, to catch any moisture.
- Store in a single layer
- Keep them in the coldest part of your refrigerator
